Dear PMI Members and Credential Holders:
We have some exciting news to share with you regarding the way we will be implementing PMI Global Congress in Asia Pacific starting in 2011.
Leveraging the success of the Latin America regional events program, PMI took a look at the Asia Pacific region and saw many similarities to the Latin America region. Upon extensive review and input from PMI members and volunteers, a decision was made in 2009 for PMI to replace the single, annual Latin America Global Congress with support of a series of regional and local PMI community events across the region in 2009.
The positive reaction and successful performance of the Latin American regional event plan implementation prompted PMI to look at Asia Pacific for a regional event plan strategy. Specifically we saw the similarities in the diversity of cultures, and more specifically the expansive geographic distances that challenged people from attending a PMI congress which was far from their home country.
As the first step in our process of evaluating this opportunity for Asia Pacific, we met with the Asia Pacific mentors and leaders in January and February 2010 to talk about the plan and solicit feedback. The result was overwhelming support from the Asia Pacific leadership community for the implementation of the Asia Pacific regional event plan strategy.
Therefore, moving forward with support from the Asia Pacific community leaders, PMI will replace the single PMI Global Congress Asia Pacific—2011 with support of a series of regional events managed by PMI communities and supporters.
The first step PMI is taking to is to develop the schedule of events which will include locations and dates. Once this is confirmed, we will post it on PMI.org for your information.
We look forward to serving all of PMI members and credential holders as well as project professionals with this regional event plan in the Asia Pacific region.
